WHO WE ARE

Action Against Killer Roads (AAKR) is an American non-profit organization. We are leading tech engineers and experts that strive to act on road safety issues in developing countries.

PROBLEM

According to a World Health Organization (WHO) news release dated December 13, 2023, road accidents result in approximately 1.19 million fatalities each year. This equates to one person dying on the road roughly every 30 seconds due to traffic crashes, making road traffic injuries the leading cause of death among children and young adults aged 5–29 years. Vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, are particularly at risk, especially in low- and middle-income countries where 92% of global fatalities occur despite these regions possessing only 60% of the world's vehicles. Africa reports the highest mortality rate, with governments—particularly in sub-Saharan Africa—facing significant challenges in maintaining standard safety measures for roads, vehicles, and users. Additionally, the WHO African Region’s 2023 report indicates that road traffic injuries caused an estimated 225,482 deaths in 2021. Africa thus accounts for 19% of the global burden of road traffic deaths, while representing just 15% of the world’s population and owning only 3% of the global vehicle fleet.

SOLUTION

Our organization has a vision to impact thousands of generations by preventing injuries and saving the maximum possible of lives using new technologies along with transportation infrastructures and even go further by improving people’s lives by reducing poverty in their midst while ensuring a sustainable planet for our children.
